The Hilton Kean relationship has spanned over four and a half decades and is unique in the sense that the pair have shared sporting interests beyond their beloved table tennis. Activities such as gymnastics, squash, high board diving and their current love of golf have been instrumental in securing their long lasting relationship.

The lads first met at the YMCA in Manchester where countless hours of table tennis practice soon saw them progress from the lower divisions of local leagues such as Manchester Stockport Hyde and Trafford to the international world stage. This journey was achieved via interleague matches around the North West and Lancashire and Cheshire.

Eventually County representative honours and national tournaments necessitated travel throughout the length and breadth of the UK which proved to be the final springboard from which they exploded on to the international circuit. Their development was nurtured in different ways by the fatherly tutelage and support of local national legends Derek Schofield and Jack Clayton of whom both the guys had the utmost respect.

On attaining international status it was inevitable that John and Brian would soon be in demand to provide exhibitions and coaching around the country and its their unique exhibitions which perfectly highlight the synergy that prevails between the pair and aptly displays their wonderful sense of humour and fun which has served as a great promotional platform for table tennis.
